Cottage Industries (in Nepal)

People make and produce thing at homes in a small scale and investing a little money. They can make thing out of natural objects. It needs a few people. Such industries are known as cottage industries. It does not need heavy and expensive machines.

There are many kinds of cottage industries. They are weaving cloth, carpet making, carpentry, spinning, carving, pottery, shoe making etc. When there were no mills and factories in old days, Nepal was famous for the cottage industries. People were good artisan. Their products were very well. Palpali Dhaka ko Topi is one of them.

Now in the country large factories are established. They produce thing in large quantities and very quickly. Their prices are also cheap. Artisans do not compete with them.

In Nepal, most of the people live in villages and depend on agriculture. Nepal is a developing country. Cottage industries supply us with our needs. They provide employment to people to some extent. The most advantage of cottage industries is they help preserve our traditional arts and handicrafts. Many people who have skills may earn money by making various things.

Most people in Nepal are low income. The government should give priority to set up these types of industries. They help the poor people raise their living standards. The importance of cottage industries is great in Nepal.
